  No, I have not read Friedman's book. In fact, I made my post before your's appeared referring to Friedman. Nor do I need to read his book as the JEDP theory has been around for more than a hundred years. The theory is based entirely on speculation about different styles of writing. Their is no MSS evidence for it that I know of. If there is MSS evidence for it, or if Friedman adds anything new, let me know.

  I am well aware that Moses did not actually write Genesis, but compiled and edited it. I also recognize that there were some additions after Moses finished his writing. There is no evidence to suggest that these changed the meaning or that they occurred much later.

  The JEDP theory is a matter of modern chauvinism being applied to an ancient document. Writing in the 3rd person and not indentifying the author was common practice in the ANE. If it is a hang-up for us, then it is is simply our hang-up. There is not one MSS to support that a book of the Bible has evolved in any manner. Most of the "logic" that would support the DH is such that would make the WTS proud.

  Just a couple of things:

  • America's shorter life spans have to do with life style choices, not the quality of medical care. You don't see too many overweight Japanese.
  • The reason that Canadian drugs are less expensive to the consumer is that the government subsidizes the cost of them. It is not that that they are inherently cheaper, it is that the Canadian government shares in the expense. The result is that all of you in Canada are paying, in part, for American's drugs when we buy them from there. Thank you for spending your money on my drugs.
  • Obama is already saying that government is going to make health care decisions and that if it is not cost effective to give Mom cancer or coronary care - goodbye Mom. Why is it better for the government to ration my care than an insurance company?

  I have thought that it is hypocritical for the WTS to be incorporated. By doing so they have put "God's government" in subjection to man's government.

  Amityville horror house and Roswell UFO's...a good example of myths, lies spread as facts!

  roswell is where an american military base tests it's new aircraft...so a ufo happens to crash just down the road!.....hello!

  the theory took off in the 1970's due to conspiracy books...a miltary offical claimed it was a ufo, he also claimed he was a decorated ww 2 fighter pilot which was proved un-true and he was a known story teller....but the myth took off as more books came out.. amityville haunted house - the lutz family did move out of the house where a family was murdered, probably freaked by the thought.

  years later a semi-fictional book was written claiming pig faced demon attacks and priests being told to "get out"....funny how the demons seemed to move out too...the new owners for the last 30 years only complained about the damn tourists.

  1. if one is adequately informed of the consequences of a decision, and willfully choosing to make that decision is clearly irrational, then it is irrational to willfully choose to make it.

  According to Christians, the decision to reject God is indicative of a deep defect in the nonbeliever’s moral and rational faculties.

  That's a new one to me. I find the whole construct a series of baseless assumptions. I am suspicious of the use of the word "defect". Is the implication here to accuse Christians of thinking of unbelievers as being "retards"? Christians believe that there are wise and unwise decisions.

  Statements 8-11 are circular reasoning. Just like: "A person would have to be crazy to go on a murder rampage. He must be innocent by reason of insanity because he went on a murder rampage."

  Rational or irrational decisions cannot be broken down into a decision tree that applies to everyone. Decisions are determined more by an indivual's world view and value system than any supposed rationality. Any salesman can tell you that most decisions are made on the basis of emotions rather than logic.

  What is there is, is a lot of philosophical reasonings, but nothing remotely connected to Christian thought. Straw man burning.
